More than 1,800 associates produce our ice cream, muffins, and the other fresh products we send to our stores.
When most people think of Publix, they think of our stores. But Publix is also a manufacturer, producing top-quality products our stores are proud to sell and our customers love to buy. No wonder our associates feel a great deal of pride when they see Publix-manufactured products in our stores.
Nearly 2,000 associates work in Florida and Georgia in four fresh foods operations, three dairy plants, two bakery plants, our deli kitchen, a printing services plant, manufacturing/supply purchasing, and corporate manufacturing.
Our four fresh foods operations are located in Lakeland, Florida; Deerfield Beach, Florida; Jacksonville, Florida; and Dacula, Georgia. Associates pack high-quality fruits and vegetables in convenient packages for our customers. The fresh foods facilities employ more than 250 associates, who produce approximately 80 million packages of product annually.
Our three dairy plants are located in Lakeland, Florida; Deerfield Beach, Florida; and Dacula, Georgia. More than 500 dairy plant associates process 100 million gallons of fresh milk a year. They also produce Publix brand ice cream, bottled water, iced teas, fruit drinks and juices, cultured products like yogurt and cottage cheese, and carbonated beverages.
Our two bakery plants are in Lakeland, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia.
The Lakeland plant is Publix's oldest manufacturing facility, opening in 1972 with 27 associates. Today, the facility is about 225,000 square feet, and more than 400 Publix associates work there, producing a variety of delicious baked goods. Production lines include dry mix, frozen sweet goods, frozen rolls, frozen wire-cut cookies, icings, and fruit fillings. Ready-to-serve baked products—muffins, creme cakes, corn bread, and cupcakes—are processed here, too.
The Atlanta bakery plant—115,000 square feet—opened in 2004 and employs more than 100 associates who produce frozen pies and rolls that are ready to be baked in our stores.
Our deli kitchen in Lakeland, Florida, employs more than 400 associates who produce a variety of fully prepared meats and salads according to Publix’s demanding quality standards. These foods are designed to save time for customers when they are preparing meals. Our 200,000-square-foot facility makes it possible.
Printing services, located in Lakeland, Florida, handles more than 182,000 orders each year, including requests to print forms, labels, signs, and newsletters. This department also produces electronic files for Publix's weekly newspaper ads, engraves name badges for retail associates, and handles corporate photography needs.
Our manufacturing/supply purchasing department is involved in almost every aspect of Publix's operations. This team supports our manufacturing facilities, retail associates, and distribution centers by sourcing and negotiating price, terms, and delivery of raw materials, supplies, packaging, and equipment. The department also supports the corporate purchasing team with the supplier certification and negotiation of our many Publix brand products.
