Dec. 5, 2023 — Publix recognized Miami Division District Manager Lillian Cook with the 2023 President’s Award at the company’s retail operations conference.

Recipients of the award are seen as champions for an inclusive workforce. They go above and beyond to allocate the time and resources necessary to develop the best possible Publix leaders.

“Teamwork is part of what makes us successful. I am so lucky to work for a company that empowers us to grow our associates,” said Lillian. “Teaching, training and developing the future — that's the most rewarding area of my job.”

Lillian has always made an effort to prioritize communication.

“I’m a leader with high standards and expectations, but also one who is personable and there for my team whenever they need it,” she said. “I tell my team that from the minute you walk into your store, start thinking about every associate engagement, every customer interaction and all the little details. The little things are what make a difference in how we serve our customers.”

Lillian was shocked when she learned she had been named this year’s Miami Division President’s Award recipient.

“This was one of the biggest and most humbling phone calls I have ever received,” she said. “It is truly an honor, and I can’t express how thankful I am to be recognized by my leaders and peers for something we should all be fostering every day.”

About the honoree

Lillian began working for Publix in 1984 as a cashier in Tequesta, Florida. She continued to work her way up through the customer service department and then the grocery department. Lillian became an assistant store manager in 2003. In 2006, she was promoted to store manager and district manager in 2011.
