Dec. 5, 2024 — Publix Super Markets celebrated the 2024 Miami Division George W. Jenkins Award recipient, Store Manager James Gooze, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at the company’s annual retail operations conference in Orlando, Florida.
James is an influential leader on his team and works hard to bring out the best in his associates. He perpetuates Mr. George’s legacy by being there for his associates when they are in need.
“Publix operates at its best when we all work together,” said James. “I’m always striving to find ways to foster a great environment for our team. That’s what I work for every day.”
Being recognized with this award was a career highlight for James. He said it took a minute to sink in, but once it did, he felt a sense of accomplishment and pride.
“I’ve been to Publix’s retail operations conference 19 times and have had the pleasure of seeing my peers recognized with this award,” said James. “To now stand alongside them truly means so much. It’s an honor.”
About the honoree
James started his career in 1984 as a front service clerk and worked his way up through the grocery department before becoming an assistant store manager. In 2004, he was promoted to store manager in Hollywood, Florida. Today, he is a store manager in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
About the George W. Jenkins Award
Named after Publix’s founder, the George W. Jenkins Award is one of the company’s most prestigious awards. It is presented to one store manager from each of the company’s five divisions and one support area manager who exemplify leadership, perpetuate the Publix culture and demonstrate their commitment to his ideals. As part of the award, each recipient is presented with a special green Publix jacket, marking them as members of this deserving group of honorees.
James joins Atlanta Division District Manager Kayla Dean, Charlotte Division Store Manager Dan Ratchup, Jacksonville Division Store Manager Jason Parrish, Lakeland Division Store Manager Steve Ellis, and Director of Emerging Business & Private Brands Karen Hall as this year’s George W. Jenkins Award recipients.
