Dec. 5, 2024 — Publix Super Markets celebrated the 2024 Lakeland Division George W. Jenkins Award recipient, Store Manager Steve Ellis, Tampa, Florida, at the company’s annual retail operations conference in Orlando, Florida.

Steve is a leader who takes a proactive approach to building meaningful connections with his customers and associates daily. He is focused on building trust and synergy with his team.

“I try to learn something new about my associates every single day,” said Steve. “Everyone has something different to bring to the table that can help us grow.”

When Steve found out he was being recognized with this award, he was in disbelief. He said it was a call he would never forget.

“A lot of emotion goes into getting this award,” said Steve. “I think about the people before me who have received it and the countless people who deserve it. This is a very humbling and proud moment in my career.”

About the honoree

Steve started his career in 1986 as a front service clerk and worked his way up through the grocery department before becoming an assistant store manager. In 2008, he was promoted to store manager in Tampa, Florida. Today, he is a store manager at a neighboring store in Tampa.

About the George W. Jenkins Award

Named after Publix’s founder, the George W. Jenkins Award is one of the company’s most prestigious awards. It is presented to one store manager from each of the company’s five divisions and one support area manager who exemplify leadership, perpetuate the Publix culture and demonstrate their commitment to his ideals. As part of the award, each recipient is presented with a special green Publix jacket, marking them as members of this deserving group of honorees.

Steve joins Atlanta Division District Manager Kayla Dean, Charlotte Division Store Manager Dan Ratchup, Jacksonville Division Store Manager Jason Parrish, Miami Division Store Manager James Gooze, and Director of Emerging Business & Private Brands Karen Hall as this year’s George W. Jenkins Award recipients.
