Dec. 3, 2024 — At Publix, we are committed to helping our communities year-round through several initiatives, which is why we’re reflecting on the ways we’ve given back in 2024.

Hunger

As a food retailer, our greatest opportunity to give back is to help individuals and families in our communities facing hunger. In May, we reached the milestone of donating 100 million pounds of produce to Feeding America partner food banks to help feed our neighbors in need.

Twice a year, the Good Together hunger campaign gives our customers and associates the opportunity to help end hunger in their communities. Their donations help provide local food banks and pantries with the nonperishable food items and fresh produce they need most. Publix also donates an additional $5 million during each campaign in fresh produce to Feeding America partner food banks in our operating area.

The Good Together food donation program helps provide wholesome food for people facing hunger while also limiting food waste. The program allows us to donate food from our deli, grocery, meat and produce departments that is no longer salable but safe for consumption to Feeding America partner food banks and other nonprofit organizations. In September, we expanded the program to include 4,000 additional products for donation, including items like yogurt and frozen foods.

In 2024, Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) also donated $11 million to more than 300 local food banks and nonprofits, including 39 Feeding America partner food banks. These funds help support organizations with efforts like weekend backpack programs, food pantries and meal delivery programs. Publix associates also volunteered their time in September during Publix Serves Week to participate in community service activities focused on feeding our neighbors in need.

Sustainability

We’re also committed to making responsible choices to minimize our impact on the environment. In April, we launched our inaugural Good Together environmental campaign, giving customers and associates the opportunity to donate to efforts that protect, conserve and restore natural resources within their communities. Associates also volunteered their time in April during Publix Serves Week to serve local organizations that support environmental sustainability efforts.

In addition, using a portion of our reusable bag sales, we’re able to help with reforestation efforts throughout our operating area. Earlier in the year, our funding supported the planting of 250,000 trees in the Econfina Creek watershed, a once-thriving forest ecosystem in the Florida Panhandle that was devastated by Hurricane Michael. We’ve also supported ocean conservation efforts such as fishery improvement projects that enhance sustainable seafood practices and coral reef restoration projects to restore and protect Florida’s coral reef ecosystem. We’re also helping to restore water in the Florida Everglades and improve the health of wetland habitats.

Additional register campaigns

Throughout the year, we provide our customers and associates with the opportunity to give back to organizations during several register campaigns. During our Special Olympics campaign, over $5.6 million was raised to ensure that Special Olympics athletes were able to compete and train free of cost. In June, the Children’s Miracle Network campaign raised more than $5.2 million to benefit Children’s Miracle Network hospitals throughout our operating area. Customers and associates raised more than $5.2 million for March of Dimes to help improve the health of moms, babies and families.

Disaster relief

At Publix, we believe in being there for our local communities both before and after a natural disaster hits. PSMC donated $2 million in total to support disaster relief following Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. After the storms, we donated supplies and other necessities to people in need. Publix also launched register campaigns to support those affected by both hurricanes and raised over $1 million.
