As a grocery retailer, providing people with access to the nourishment they need to thrive is a key focus of Publix’s commitment to our communities. Along with Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC), Publix has been working for years to help alleviate hunger for people in need.

In 2015, Publix and PSMC donated more than $2 million to Feeding America member food banks to help with hunger alleviation efforts as part of Hunger Action Month — Feeding America’s campaign to help inspire action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States.

At that time, several food banks needed refrigerated trucks to safely transport perishable items being donated by food retailers. To help meet this need, PSMC awarded $120,000 each to 12 Feeding America member food banks to acquire refrigerated trucks. PSMC also donated $60,000 to Feeding America to use toward its mission.

In addition to the donation to purchase refrigerated trucks by PSMC, Publix supplied 12 trailer loads of food — one trailer to each of these Feeding America member food banks — to provide wholesome food during the holidays. Each trailer donation included 22 pallets of food items in high demand. The holiday food donation totaled $660,000.

Those first gifts were just the start of the significant investments we’ve made to alleviate hunger in the communities Publix and PSMC serve. In fact, since 2015, PSMC has contributed more than $32.5 million to nonprofit organizations to help feed those facing hunger. As Hunger Action Month continues, you’ll learn more about the ongoing efforts to help neighbors facing food insecurity and how we can do good, together. Publix and PSMC will announce another substantial donation in their hunger alleviation efforts later this month. Visit corporate.publix.com/newsroom each week to learn more.
