Dec. 14, 2022 — Publix Super Markets recognized Miami Division Store Manager Philip Wearsch, #757, Merritt Island, Florida, with the 2022 George W. Jenkins Award at the company’s retail operations conference.

Wearsch knows the importance of connecting with each of his associates. He spends time getting to know them and explains why making a career at Publix is so rewarding. Over the years, he has earned the reputation as someone who prepares his associates for opportunities, embraces the company’s promote-from-within culture and encourages diversity.

“I believe the best thing about Publix is our people and, as a store manager, part of my job is to take care of our people,” said Wearsch. “We all bring something to the table. Publix will continue to be made better by people who push us to do more.” 

Though Wearsch is a leader in his store, he frequently solicits feedback from his associates to continue growing and evolving. After being named one of this year’s recipients, Wearsch is determined to work even harder to reach new heights.

“I’m beyond honored and humbled to be named one of this year’s recipients,” Wearsch said. “It’s truly a team effort to make Publix a great place to work, and I owe this recognition to all the different store teams, associates and leaders I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years.” 

About the honoree
Wearsch started his career in 1989 as a front service clerk and continued to work his way up through the customer service department. In 2008, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a store manager and began serving at #1092, Orlando, Florida. Since then, he has worked at #1098, Cocoa Beach, Florida, and his current store in Merritt Island. 

About the George W. Jenkins Award
Named after Publix’s founder, the George W. Jenkins Award is presented to one store manager from each of the company’s five divisions and one support area manager who exemplify leadership, perpetuate the Publix culture and demonstrate their commitment to his vision. As part of the award, each recipient is presented with a special green Publix jacket, marking them as a member of this deserving group of honorees.

Wearsch joins Atlanta Division Store Manager Phil Postle, Charlotte Division Store Manager Mark Taggart, Jacksonville Division Store Manager Steve Myers, Lakeland Division Store Manager Jenniffer Kras and Business Development Director of Produce Curt Epperson as this year’s George W. Jenkins Award recipients.
