Dec. 14, 2022 — Publix Super Markets recognized Charlotte Division District Manager Dawne Steinbach with the 2022 President’s Award at the company’s retail operations conference.

In her role, Steinbach places an emphasis on mentorship. She has participated in Publix’s mentorship program and has served as an informal mentor to many managers and associates in her district. She creates buy-in from associates across multiple districts.

“Like our CEO Todd Jones said, ‘Taking care of our associates first should always be a priority for Publix leaders,’” said Steinbach. “It’s important to build the foundation of investing in our associates, motivating them and inspiring them to do their best to ensure that Publix remains a great place to work.”

Steinbach spends a considerable amount of time with each manager and associate to listen to their needs and provide clear communication, coaching and development. She has a robust approach to meeting with associates who express an interest in growing their career with the company and she checks in with them regularly. She fosters an environment of inclusivity and growth by taking the time to connect with her team.

“I take pride in taking care of people and building relationships with them,” Steinbach said. “Ever since I was promoted to a management position, investing time with each associate has been important to me. You never know who will be affected by your time and words.”

Steinbach was enthusiastic and couldn’t believe her ears when she received the President’s Award.

“After my name was called, the rest of the evening seemed surreal,” she said. “I felt proud and extremely humbled to be recognized in front of so many of my peers. Publix took a chance on me and I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned throughout my career,” Steinbach said.

About the honoree
Steinbach began her Publix career in 1994 as a part-time cashier in Port Richey, Florida. She was promoted shortly after to a common area manager, now known as the customer service manager. In 2005, Steinbach was promoted to store manager before becoming a district manager in 2010.
