LAKELAND, Fla., Dec. 5, 2022 — Audubon Florida named Publix Super Markets its Distinguished Philanthropist Award recipient for 2022 at a ceremony in Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary Dec. 2. The award is presented annually to an individual or organization whose generosity provides necessary support for Audubon Florida.

“We’re honored to receive this award and proud of the continued work we’re doing to preserve our natural resources,” said Publix Director of Environmental and Sustainability Programs Michael Hewett. “As part of our mission to be involved as responsible citizens in our communities, we remain committed to supporting conservation efforts throughout our operating area.”

About Publix’s support
Last year, Publix announced plans to support the removal of nuisance trees and plants in the Florida Everglades. Part of these efforts included a donation to the National Audubon Society over five years for the removal of these nuisance species across 500 acres of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in the western Everglades. Restoration improves habitats for native species and provides benefits for surrounding communities.
