Nov. 17, 2023 — During Publix’s retail operations conference, leaders from around the company participated in a volunteer project to build bicycles for children in foster care. The teams assembled 300 bikes for the nonprofit Foster Love, which provides services and programs in the foster care community. The bikes will be delivered to 15 organizations throughout the seven states we currently operate in, and our soon-to-be eighth state of Kentucky. According to Foster Love, owning a bicycle can help youth in foster care develop independence and confidence and allow them just to be kids.

This project is another way we show our commitment to serving our communities. Our founder, George Jenkins, believed that for any organization to be truly successful, it must give back. His example continues today through our associate volunteerism and Publix Serves Weeks.

“The stories of Mr. George’s compassion and giving are legendary. He was a servant leader who encouraged associates at all levels to engage in service to their neighbors in need,” said Publix Super Markets Charities Executive Director Kelly Williams-Puccio. “We’re proud to continue Mr. George’s legacy of doing good, together for our communities.”

Publix Super Markets Charities donated more than $60,000 for the bike-building project.
