We carefully select our seafood suppliers based on factors like product quality and sustainable practices.

April 21, 2026 — As a grocery retailer focused on sustainable practices, we are leading the way in seafood sustainability. Whether it’s working with commercial fishers who supply seafood to our stores to advance sustainable processes or collaborating with organizations like Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), we are always looking for ways to leave the planet a little better off for tomorrow.

Mahi Bycatch Data Collection and Safe Release Incentive Program

Our most recent donation to SFP is helping to fund a bycatch reporting incentive program supporting commercial mahi-mahi fisheries called Ocean Allies.

This program provides training and resources for commercial harvesters to improve data collection of the unintended catch (often referred to as bycatch) and education on best practices and tools needed to safely release nontarget wildlife.

Participants are commercial fishers in Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica and Guatemala, where the majority of mahi-mahi consumed in the U.S. is imported from.

The data collection process for this program uses tools and best practices that minimize disruption to fishing operations, while empowering fishers with training and tools to be actively involved in helping to support the long-term health of mahi-mahi fisheries. Participants are collecting data and sharing videos of the safe release of bycatch.

This is just one example of how we partner with seafood suppliers through initiatives that promote more sustainable choices for our customers. Together, we’re committed to creating a healthier ocean and a brighter future — one meal at a time.
