Each year in January, Publix associates and customers come together to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share their gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
In January 2018, our customers and associates contributed a total of $5.9 million to Special Olympics to ensure athletes were able to train and compete free of cost. This brings our total donation since 1993 to $46.4 million. In addition, our associates contribute by volunteering at Special Olympics events such as the Florida and Georgia Law Enforcement Torch Runs, for which Publix is the premier sponsor.
We're proud to contribute to and partner with this incredible organization, and we’re so grateful to you, our customers and our associates, for your continued support.
Publix's principal areas of community concern are youth, education, and health. Let us know if you'd like us to consider being part of your event.
Publix is proud of our accomplishments as a caring employer, industry leader, and member of the community.
