With 1 in 10 people in America facing food insecurity, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, we’ve continued to look for ways to help. In 2021, we launched Feeding More Together to unite customers and associates in our hunger alleviation efforts. This campaign runs twice a year and helps provide food to people facing hunger in two ways: shelf-stable food items and fresh produce purchased from Southeastern farmers.

Customer donations at the register are given to local food banks as credit. The local food banks and pantries can then use these credits to select nonperishable items they need to serve the people in their communities. In conjunction, Publix provides $5 million to purchase and deliver produce to Feeding America partner food banks.

Since March 2021, Feeding More Together has provided more than 77 million pounds of food to local food banks, pantries and Feeding America partner food banks.

“With hunger impacting every area we serve, Publix is committed to helping alleviate hunger for our neighbors in need,” said Publix’s Director of Community Relations Dwaine Stevens. “Feeding More Together is a unique opportunity to bring together the generosity of our customers and our associates. We’re proud to do good together to help provide nourishing food for people facing food insecurity.”

Our second Feeding More Together register campaign of 2023 will run Nov. 8 – 19. What began as a single day of service is now an entire week, with events held twice a year — once in the spring and once in the fall.

With a commitment to helping alleviate hunger at the heart of our philanthropic efforts, the fall week of service focuses on projects that help feed our neighbors in need. According to Feeding America, 1 in 10 people in America are food insecure. That includes 1 in 8 children and 1 in 14 seniors who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. To help put food on the tables of people facing hunger, Publix associates will spend the week engaging in activities like sorting and boxing food, assembling snack packs for children and making soup kits for seniors.

“Publix Serves unites our associates and follows our founder’s vision of giving back to the communities we serve,” said Publix Director of Community Relations Dwaine Stevens. “We’re proud of our more than 7,500 associates making an impact in the neighborhoods where they live and work. One of our key initiatives in helping to alleviate hunger is the perishable recovery program. According to Feeding America, 119 billion pounds of food is thrown out yearly. That’s the equivalent of 130 billion meals going to waste.

We launched the perishable recovery program to provide nourishing meals for our neighbors in need and limit food waste. This program engages Publix associates in hunger alleviation efforts by having them gather perishable foods that are no longer salable but still safe for consumption and donate them to Feeding America partner food banks and other nonprofit organizations. The products donated from our dairy, deli, meat and produce departments help food banks offer wholesome options to the people they serve.

“At Publix, we believe our greatest opportunity to give back is by helping to alleviate food insecurity. That’s why we continue our efforts to ensure millions of pounds of food reach our neighbors in need in the communities we serve,” said Publix Director of Community Relations Dwaine Stevens.

Since 2009, we’ve donated more than 800 million pounds of food to food banks through this initiative. The Feeding America® partner food banks received $175,000 each from PSMC to purchase and equip their mobile units. The mobile pantries allow customers to select what they need.

To further its commitment to alleviating hunger, PSMC is donating $6 million to 36 Feeding America partner food banks and more than 300 other nonprofit organizations this year. These funds will help support organizations providing services like weekend backpack programs, food pantries and meal delivery programs. Earlier this year, PSMC also announced a special $4 million grant opportunity available to select food banks in the company’s operating area to fund nonrecurring, capacity-building projects. This brings the foundation’s total investment in helping alleviate hunger to over $52 million since 2015.

“Helping provide food to our neighbors in need is at the heart of our philanthropic efforts at Publix,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones. “We’re thankful to Publix Super Markets Charities for their continued support of hunger alleviation efforts in the areas we serve. Their support and our work with food banks throughout the Southeast provide nourishment and better the lives of families and individuals in our communities. We’re proud to do good, together.”

“One in ten people in America experience food insecurity, so improving access to fresh, nutritious food is as important as ever,” said Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot. “We know we can end hunger in America when we work together with communities, with people facing hunger and with generous partners like Publix and Publix Super Markets Charities. We are incredibly appreciative of their long-standing support.”
In addition to the funding from PSMC, Publix associates are volunteering at more than 150 nonprofit organizations this week as part of Publix Serves. During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 10 – 16, 2023, we thank our more than 1,500 drivers for their hard work and commitment to Publix, our customers and their communities.

While we have many stories to share, our Deerfield Beach distribution center has a father and son duo who share in the love of working for Publix as truck drivers.

Eusebio Todd started working at Publix when he was 17 years old.

“Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated with 18-wheelers,” said Eusebio. “When I was hired at Publix and saw the possibilities, I knew I could become a truck driver here. I was excited to have the opportunity.”

After serving for 13 years in the warehouse, Eusebio got the call to train as a driver, and he’s been behind the wheel of a Publix truck for the past 22 years.

When it was time for his son, Rayvon Todd, to get a job, Eusebio immediately recommended Publix. Rayvon started his Publix career at a store in Aventura, Florida before transferring to the Miami warehouse as a selector. After some time, he was ready for a new challenge.

“I wanted to try something different, so I took the opportunity to apply for the driver trainee position,” Rayvon said.

Like his father, Rayvon enjoys driving so much that he’s planning to spend the rest of his career as a Publix driver.

“Publix is a great company to work for,” said Rayvon. “There are lots of job opportunities, and you can do as much as you want with the company. There’s nowhere else I’d like to go.”

Eusebio is extremely proud of his son, and in 2021, Rayvon was also proud of his dad when Eusebio was presented with a million-mile safe driver award.

Safe driver awards
We recognize truck drivers every year with million-mile and 5-year safe driver awards. On average, it takes 12 years for Publix drivers to log 1 million miles. The time and energy put into reaching these milestones — and doing so safely — does not go unnoticed.

When our drivers safely reach this milestone, they receive a certificate of accomplishment and a jacket with the million-mile safe driving logo at an annual recognition banquet.

We also recognize our transportation associates for each 5-year increment of consecutive safe driving.

Thank a Publix truck driver
Publix associates across the Southeast will be thanking our Publix truck drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week with posters, snacks and heartfelt gratitude.
Fri, 08 Sep 2023 00:00:00 -0400{059B7E28-4D90-4166-A67B-DF44D5BD6B39}https://corporate.publix.com/newsroom/news-stories/09082023---kick-off-the-2023-24-football-season-with-these-nfl-team-themed-pub-subsKick off the 2023-24 football season with these NFL team-themed Pub subs
Sept. 8, 2023 — Are you ready for some Pub subs?

With the start of football season upon us, Publix wants to get you ready for kickoff with Pub subs themed after your favorite NFL teams!

“We worked hard to make the initial recipes unique to each team, with characteristics about that market,” said Publix Business Development Director of Deli Allen Brown. “We wanted to create something special that each team would be proud to call their own.”

X’s and O’s of game day strategy
Working with corporate chefs, we drew up a game plan for four NFL subs representing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins.

A key consideration of the plan was to appeal to fans celebrating outside the stadiums.

“It’s all about the tailgate,” said Publix Corporate Chef Tim Donnelly.

Aye aye, matey!
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers sub brings a different spin to a classic favorite in our chicken tender sub.

This sub huddles our tenders with bacon and cheddar cheese, then topped with a spicy gold sauce. Bucs fans are sure to enjoy something sweet and spicy outside Raymond James Stadium.

On the hunt
Our chefs threw a Hail Mary in developing the Jacksonville Jaguars sub, landing on a flavor profile centered around barbecue.

“Customers really love our chicken tender sandwich already,” said Tim, “and what’s more popular in the South than barbecue?”

Topped with coleslaw and barbecue mayo, this sandwich features a smoky flavor that hits like an All-Pro linebacker and definitely will have you going back for more.

Flying the coop
Do you love chicken and waffles as much as the Atlanta Falcons love getting a first down?

Our famous Publix chicken tenders are teed up with a sweet maple seasoning and topped with bacon. But the sub moves your taste buds across the goal line by adding a familiar flavor from the state Atlanta calls home — peaches.

The sub adds peach preserves before rounding it out with some spiciness in the form of sriracha mayonnaise.

“We really scored a touchdown with this one,” Tim said.

Swimming toward the end zone
Miami Dolphins fans won’t want to fumble a chance to grab this spin on a Cuban sandwich!

Starting with Publix’s smokehouse tavern ham, pulled pork and Swiss cheese, this savory sub runs some trick plays to keep you on your toes with its flavors.

A lemon garlic aioli brings a taste of citrus to your palate, but a spicy crunch from crispy jalapenos ties it all together for this touchdown of a Miami favorite.

Tackling the game, one sub at a time
Tim and other corporate chefs enjoyed the idea of being able to develop these region-specific subs.

“We crave the opportunity to do something regional,” Tim said. “It was exciting to be able to work on this project for both football and Pub sub fans alike.”

So, whether you’re a supporter of the Bucs, Jaguars, Falcons or Dolphins — or just want to try something new — head to the official supermarket of these teams to check out a new roster you can’t miss. These subs are available for a limited time at select Publix locations. The first Friday in September has been recognized as National Food Bank Day since 2017. The day honors the founding of St. Mary’s Food Bank — the first in the world. It also serves as a reminder that hunger continues to impact individuals worldwide.

As a grocery retailer, we have a long-standing history of helping alleviate hunger in the communities we serve. One of our key initiatives in helping address food insecurity is the perishable recovery program. This program engages Publix associates in hunger alleviation efforts by having them gather perishable foods that are no longer salable but still safe to consume and donate them to Feeding America member food banks and other nonprofit organizations. The products donated from our dairy, deli, meat and produce departments help food banks offer wholesome options to the people they serve. Since 2009, the program has provided more than 800 million pounds to food banks.

Another one of our programs that support food banks is Feeding More Together. Established in 2021, this register campaign combines the generosity of customer donations with Publix giving. Twice a year, customers can donate at the register to provide local food banks and pantries with nonperishable food items. We then provide $5 million to purchase and deliver produce to Feeding America member food banks in our operating area. Since the program began, more than 77 million pounds of food have been provided to help feed individuals and families.

“At Publix, we believe no one should have to decide between having food to eat and paying a bill,” said Publix Director of Community Relations Dwaine Stevens. “As a food retailer, our greatest opportunity to give back is by helping put food on the tables of our neighbors in need. That’s why we continue our efforts to ensure millions of pounds of food reach our neighbors in need in the communities we serve.”Fri, 01 Sep 2023 00:00:00 -0400{39DCD1C1-936F-44AB-82CD-BDEE65293EA5}https://corporate.publix.com/newsroom/news-stories/08312023---publix-was-named-to-newsweeks-americas-best-customer-service-listFor the sixth year in a row, Publix was named to Newsweek’s America’s Best Customer Service list.
LAKELAND, Fla., Aug. 31, 2023 — Publix has been named to Newsweek’s 2024 America’s Best Customer Service list, ranking No. 1 in the supermarket category for the sixth year in a row.

“At Publix, we delight in catering to the needs of our customers and providing them with premier service,” said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous. “As company owners, our associates take pride in treating their customers like royalty.
